Scarves are absolutely essential – at least, if you’re a petite Malaysian studying abroad in Europe, like me. The nipping cold of European winters is not something I’m accustomed to, which is no surprise, given that I’ve spent my entire life trying to get used to the Malaysian heat. My scarf is an absolute fixture when I head outdoors, a trusty constant that nestles around my neck and keeps me warm. I’m not exempted from the cardinal sin of using my larger scarf as a portable blanket either, being guilty of having conveniently draped it over my shoulders on colder days. But how do you buy a scarf? Those leaving for colder weather often find themselves having to deal with this amidst all the pre-leaving jostle. Though most are able to find their way through the thicket, it might be worth pointing out that there is a distinction between warm winter scarves and accessory scarves. Would it be too elementary to warn you against buying accessory scarves for the winter?
